Cambridgeshire

Cambridgeshire is a county in the East of England.  Make no mistake, this is one of the most fascinating parts of the United Kingdom.  The City of Cambridge famous for its university, traditions and superb architecture and contains most of the region known as the Silicon Fen.  It is now one of the most important technology centres in Europe.

The Fens, also known as the Fenlands, are a coastal plain and despite being a natural marshy region, most of the Fens were drained several centuries ago, resulting in a flat, dry, low-lying agricultural area supported by a system of drainage channels, man-made rivers (dykes and drains) and automated pumping stations.  A great place for wildlife, superb walks and of course the Prickwillow museum.

Cambridgeshire is the site of Flag Fen in Fengate, one of the earliest - known Neolithic (10.200 BC) permanent settlements in the UK.  Many Stone age, Bronze age and Iron age finds have been made here.

Recorded in the Domesday Book as Grantbridge and covering a large part of East AngliaCambridge of course is the town where: The Atom was first split, where the structure of DNA was discovered, where Charles Darwin developed the theory of evolution. Where Newton developed his theory of gravity.  Where the order of human DNA was first discovered, where the electron and neutron were discovered where the late Stephen Hawking of the black hole fame used to live and work.  It is home to the great thinkers of the last 500 years and is stunning.

There is SO much to see, do and say.  So, therefore see the further drop down menus.  It is worth the effort to read and help plan as this is a once in a lifetime jaw dropping trip.  Oh, and lets not forget the punting!
